Veterans Memorial Park

Veterans Memorial Park is situated on the south side of Highway 14/61 in the Village of Coon Valley.  The park has a ball field located on the east end and a Gazebo and walking path on the west end.  The Coon Creek runs along the west and north boundaries of the park and is noted for itŐs trout fishing.  On the west end of the park there are two foot bridges that pass over Coon Creek.  The foot bridges connect a walking path that goes along both the east and west side of the creek.  The walking path has handicapped fishing areas and is heavily used by both the residents of Coon Valley and visitors as a good exercise area.

Besides the ball field, the park includes two horseshoe pits, a tennis court, a basketball court and three shelters.  It is a busy place in the summer for many reunions and parties.  The Gazebo on the west end of the park is also a popular location for wedding parties to come for pictures.

Also located adjacent to the west end of the park is the Coon Valley American Legion Post 116 clubrooms.  Just west of the clubrooms is the Coon Creek Area Veterans Memorial honoring those who served our country in all branches of the service and also those who died in service.

The Coon Valley area was the site of the First Federal Soil Conservation Project in the United States and this is commemorated by an engraved stone that is located on the south side of the east foot bridge.  This project aided farmers to conserve their topsoil by using strip crop planting methods and also worked to prevent soil erosion in other ways.

Improvements to the park have been made over the years by the village, aided by the Coon Valley Lions and the Coon Valley Area Baseball Association.  Their latest joint project was the construction of a new landscaped entrance to the east end of the park by the ball field.

To the north of the park across Coon Creek are the beautiful bluffs of the coulee region.  Because of its location, near the bluffs and the creek, you may be lucky to encouter one of the deer that sometimes visit the park or a bald eagle that soars overhead!

Enjoy your visit to Coon Valley and enjoy your time at Veterans Memorial Park, one of the finest, all-purpose parks in Western Wisconsin.
